"Forty years ago nomadic Moldovan Gypsies arrived in the Siberian city of Tyumen and stayed there. Rejected by all, surrounded by development of new buildings, the Gypsies live in hovels. In 2012, there was a plan to relocate them into a new settlement of good homes, but after a meeting of villagers who were against the relocation, the authorities terminated construction. The relocation did not and will not take place. Eremina’s documentary project “Children of the Wind” is about life within the Siberian Gypsy camp with the view to tell the true story.
Photographer SVETLANA EREMINA lives in Russia. In Siberia. Fascinated by photography, in 2008 she began work on documentary projects in Russia, Turkey and India. One of the winners of Documentary Photography Competition (Russia), the project “Children of the Wind,” is about the life of the Roma community. "Hace cuarenta años nómadas gitanos moldavos llegaron a la ciudad siberiana de Tyumen y se establecieron allí. Rechazados por todos, rodeados por el desarrollo de nuevos edificios, los gitanos viven en chabolas. En 2012, hubo un plan para reubicarlos restaurando hogares dignos, pero después de una reunión los aldeanos se posicionaron en contra de la reubicación y a pesar de ello las autoridades terminaron las obras.
