Martin Scorsese, después de 'No Direction Home' o la clásica 'The Last Waltz', sigue indagando en la figura correosa de Dylan con esta aproximación detallada a la atípica gira de 1975 en la que el icónico trovador presentaba sus discos 'Blood On The Tracks' y 'Desire' y para la que se hizo acompañar de un plantel novelesco que incluía al poeta gurú Allen Ginsberg, una Joan Baez fuera de su papel tradicional, el guitarrista Mick Ronson (que fuera escudero de Bowie en su etapa Ziggy Stardust), Joni Mitchell en estado de gracia, una Patti Smith acelerada, una extraña y virtuosa violinista o un peculiar periodista de la revista Rolling Stone entre muchos otros. No es de extrañar que Bob intentara evadirse de aquella vorágine delirante conduciendo él mismo el autobús de la gira. No menos reseñable para el caso es el desconocido realizador que lo filmó todo y cuyas imágenes convierten el documental en una joyita irrenunciable para todo aquel que esté interesado en la música de Dylan y que se puede completar con las fotografías de Ken Regan y la caja con todas las grabaciones de la gira o los varios relatos publicados. Posible spoiler: ojo porque gran parte de lo que se ve en la película o lo reflejado aquí puede no ser cierto, muy en la línea del caracter escurridizo y algo surreal del artista retratado. En realidad este documental está basado en la película que Bob Dylan y Sam Shepard hicieron de aquella gira, 'Renaldo y Clara'.

Martin Scorsese, after No Direction Home or the classic The Last Waltz, continues to investigate on Dylan's misterious figure with this detailed approach to the atypical 1975 tour in which the iconic troubadour presented his Blood On The Tracks and Desire albums and for which he was accompanied with a novelesque squad that included guru poet Allen Ginsberg, a Joan Baez out of her traditional role, guitarist Mick Ronson (best known as Bowie's Ziggy Stardust member), a inspired Joni Mitchell, an unstoppable Patti Smith, a strange and virtuous violinist or a peculiar Rolling Stone  magazine journalist among many others. Not surprise that Bob tried to escape from that delirious maelstrom by driving the tour bus himself. No less noteworthy for the case is the unknown filmmaker who captured it and whose images make the documentary an indispensable gem for anyone who is interested in Dylan's music that can be completed with Ken Regan's pictures and a whole box with the tour recordings or the several books about it. A possible spoiler: watch out because part of what you see in the movie or what I reflected here might not be true, what matches the shady nature of the portrayed artist. The film is actually based on the film Dyan and Sam Shepard made out of that tour, 'Renaldo & Clara'.

John Cohen es un músico, fotógrafo y cineasta, colaborador ocasional de Alan Lomax, que contribuyó al resurgimiento del folk norteamericano con su banda New Lost City Ramblers además de fotografiar, grabar o filmar a numerosos músicos y costumbres tradicionales a lo largo y ancho de la geografía americana en lugares como Kentucky, Los Apalaches o los territorios andinos peruanos. Al mismo tiempo fue un testigo de excepción del ambiente contracultural y las artes experimentales de los 50s y 60s frecuentando a personajes como Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Robert Frank o Dylan (cuando éste aún era un completo desconocido) entre muchos otros.

John Cohen is a musician, photographer and filmmaker, occasionally collaborating with Alan Lomax, who contributed to the American folk revival with his band New Lost City Ramblers besides photographing, recording or filming traditional musicians and customs throughout the American geography in places like Kentucky, the Appalachians or the Peruvian Andean territories. At the same time he was a witness to the counter-cultural environment and experiment arts of the 50s and 60s hanging with guys such as Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Robert Frank and a still unknown Dylan among many others.
