James Jowers trabajaba de portero de noche en un Hospital de Nueva York y fotografiaba por afición durante el día. Aprendió el oficio como alumno y protegido de la artista Lisette Model, quien luego le ayudaría profesionalmente propiciando su entrada en una Agencia. Estas imágenes de la ciudad fueron tomadas durante los 60s y los 70s y fueron cedidas por el autor a la George Eastman House.
At first he worked some time as a night porter for a Hospital in New York, taking photos of the city at daytime as a passion. A student under Lisette Model, later a friend and a mentor, she introduced Jowers to the Nancy Palmer Photo Agency where he was represented for several years. These pictures taken during the 60s and 70s were donated by the author to the George Eastman House.
