This edition contains many of those pop symphonies made of overlap of instruments and melodies that resulted in the so-called 'wall of sound', by great music producer Phil Spector. Watching a documentary about his trial for the murder of a waitress and failed actress, as a result of wich he is actually serving 19 years in prison, inevitably led me to go back to this collection of masterpieces. The documentary I'm referring to is called 'The Agony and Ecstasy of Phil Spector' and I guess it didn't do him any good for he shows with no shame his complex personality and big ego, comparing himself in there to Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo or Einstein. But the trial was probably already lost before hand because of his excessive fondness for weapons, holding them at any opportunity (as Lennon, Ramones or Leonard Cohen among others had the chance of suffering in the recording Studio). It should be noted that some of the little wonders of popular music appearing in this box set were written by him and the lyrics were purposely (some way or another) about personal issues.
