El 'Preservation Hall' es un local de Nueva Orleans que empezó a funcionar como Galería de Arte en 1961 (antes de eso era una residencia particular) pero pronto se transformó en un lugar de acogida para los músicos que practicaban ese jazz tan típico de la ciudad cuando otros estilos musicales de moda los relegó a un segundo plano, brindándoles un espacio para actuar y ensayar. Así durante estas cinco décadas transcurridas desde su inauguración ha servido como escenario para algunos de sus mejores intérpretes. El local, que sólo ofrece música al público y no sirve comida ni bebida, sobrevivió a todos los desastres naturales que azotaron la ciudad y aún sigue funcionando y su banda residente ha publicado varios discos. Este que vengo escuchando mucho últimamente es una selección de piezas escogidas de esas grabaciones.
