Las noches de Billy Monk

The nights of Billy Monk

In the late 60's the 30-years-old Billy Monk frequented some clubs in Cape Town (South Africa), especially Les Catacombs where he was the local bouncer. With the confidence that allowed him working in the club he portrayed many of its clients in that festive atmosphere with the intention of selling those photographs to them.
Monk abandoned in 1969 that practice and negatives remained forgotten until they were found in 1982 by a man who excited by the discovery prepared an exhibition with it, but Monk never got to see it for he died in a fight on his way to the event.
