En sus propias palabras "nacida en Venezuela, nativa de Seattle y una cabrona", Yva Las Vegass es relativamente conocida por haber formado parte del (fallido) proyecto Sweet 75 con Kris Novoselic cuando éste andaba buscando editar música tras la disolución forzosa de Nirvana. Se cuenta por ahí que el bajista la escuchó cantar en una fiesta y quedó tan fascinado que le propuso trabajar juntos. En cualquier caso lo mejor de aquel proyecto era la canción tradicional venezolana que ella interpretaba con voz poderosa y actitud, algo que se prodiga en esta colección de canciones de sus grabaciones en pasados años con el largo título 'I Was Born in a Place of Sunshine and the Smell of Ripe Mangoes' ['Yo Nací en un Lugar de Sol Brillante y Olor de Mangos Maduros'] donde incide de un modo más amplio en esa línea de folklore de su país pero con ese carisma suyo y una rabia pasional cercana al punk que convierte el contenido en un joyita que merece mucho la escucha, una selección que se puede complementar con un documental sobre su persona titulado 'The Life and Times of Yva Las Vegass' (Wiley Perry Underdown, 2007).
In her own words "a Venezuelan born, Seattle native and a motherfucker", Yva Las Vegass is relatively well known for being part of that (failed) project called Sweet 75 along bassist Kris Novoselic when the guy was willing to edit some music after the forced dissolution of Nirvana. It is said he heard her singing at a party and was so fascinated that he decided they should work together. Anyway the best thing of that project was the traditional Venezuelan song she sang in Spanish with that powerful voice who allowed her to perform on the streets of Seattle with no mic, a style of herself in the line of some sort of folklore-punk quite present in this collection of songs of her recordings in the past years under the long title 'I Was Born in a Place of Sunshine and the Smell of Ripe Mangoes' that quite deserves the listening. And it should be said that there is also out there a documentary about her titled 'The Life and Times of Yva Las Vegass' (Wiley Perry Underdown, 2007).
