'New Coat of Paint' ['Nueva Mano de Pintura'] es el título de una canción de Tom Waits y también el de este más que interesante tributo a cargo de algunos artistas muy personales como Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Lydia Lunch (que hace una estupenda versión de 'Heartattack & Vine' que ya versionó Screamin' Jay en otra ocasión), Lee Rocker (de los Stray Cats, haciendo lo suyo con la canción que da título al álbum), Andre Williams o Dexter Romweber (Flat Duo Jets) entre otros y que responde a la atribución de derechos de algunas de sus composiciones más tempranas por el editor de sus primeros discos. De entre los muchos homenajes dedicados a Waits diría que esta publicación del año 2000 sobresale por la personalidad de los implicados que le dan un toque propio, para bien o para mal, a las canciones.

Among the many tributes and versions of Waits compositions this collection published in 2000 to me stands up front due to the personality of the artists involved taking the songs, for better or worse, to their own field.
