Legend also tells Ava initiated Bowie in consumption of cocaine, a habit that almost took his life, thinned to rickets. Ava also commented on several occasions how Jagger and Bowie were involved with each other sexually. Ava enrolled at the time as a back up singer and stylistic presence in Bowie's band and seemed to imbue him into black music, encouraging a funk-soul period in his career. But it may simply be, on the other hand, those were the tastes, vices and styles of the moment. It is also commonly accepted that Bowie 's song 'Can You Hear Me' (included in 'Young Americans') is painfully dedicated to her, the result of a loving and working relationship of about four years (1974 to 78) amid a maelstrom of success and debauchery. Anyway Bowie tried to help her on the launch of a music career, producing some (rather weak) sessions that can be found as 'The Astronette Sessions', a career that would be diluted in poor disco productions. She is still to date trying it out on music and has been seen recently at a promotional event for the film '20 ft from Stardom'.
