Gerard Petrus Fieret (1924-2009) was a peculiar Dutch photography artist who experimented incessantly in his own chaotic way with basic cameras, badly kept negatives and any available photo paper, expanding the common understanding of tools and materials. He used to capture intuitive snapshots of his everyday life and of women he met on the street and portrayed in the privacy of his home, stuff he then left deteriorating on negatives or prints wich gave images a unique character, which also has followed its own subversive course over the years because his work was kept in the chaos of his house in a precarious existence, marked by the instability of an anarchic mind. His work has been the subject of late exhibitions, books and a posthumous documentary film that redeemed his figure as already happened with that other photographer, Czech Miroslav Tichý, with whose story he has some parallels.
