Georges De La Tour

This French painter of the 17th century, whose works were acquired in his time by the highest spheres and then remained forgotten until his claim in the last century, seems to have served as inspiration for the visuals of the series 'La Peste'. Paradoxically, it is likely that De La Tour also ended his days victim of another epidemic illness. Some of the few paintings of his that have survived to this day present a boast of illumination in his particular obsession with scenes lit up by candles, possibly influenced by his themes and treatment by a previous chiaroscuro master, Caravaggio, who also seems to have inspired the visuals for the same Tv series. Located in a 16th century Seville, the show has served for a tourist tour through still standing buidings or vanished ones.
