Jusep Torres Campalans fue un artista pionero y figura clave del cubismo, eclipsado por otras figuras más referenciadas como Picasso o Braque. El peculiar escritor Max Aub reivindicó en una documentada biografía de 1958 su figura, dándole una pequeña visibilidad que hasta el momento no tenía. Se le mencionó entonces en algunos artículos de prensa que se hicieron eco del libro. En realidad todo fue una especie de broma macabra o divertimento de Aub, que incluyó en el libro algunas obras realizadas al alimón con su nieto y se compinchó con otros intelectuales e instituciones, completando así el documento de ficción.
