Imágenes de la película 'Chelsea On The Rocks', documental dirigido por Abel Ferrara ('El Funeral', 'Teniente Corrupto', 'El Rey De Nueva York', 'The Addiction'...) sobre los cambios que se avecinan en el legendario Hotel Chelsea de Nueva York. Su regente y co-propietario por largo tiempo, Stanley Bard, tenía una peculiar forma de llevar el negocio cobijando a todo tipo de artistas y personajes del underground y la bohemia con los que solía tener manga ancha y en algunos casos hacer arreglos puntuales cuando no podían pagar la renta. Los empresarios que ahora toman el control parecen pretender usar la fama internacional del edificio para convertirlo en un rentable alojamiento y negocio de lujo, lo que provoca irremediablemente la evacuación de muchos de los residentes de sus habitaciones y apartamentos (algunos de ellos lo son desde hace mucho tiempo, habiéndolo convertido en su hogar). El documental entrevista a algunos de esos habitantes, pasados o presentes, para constatar lo que parece el punto final a la época mítica de ese emplazamiento. Además fue interesante descubrir en esas entrevistas a otro residente, el fotógrafo Tony Notarberardino, que cuenta entre otras cosas cómo retrató a Dee Dee Ramone (músico de los Ramones que falleció en 2002) para un proyecto que espero con ganas, 'Chelsea Hotel Portraits'.

His regent and long-time co-owner, Stanley Bard, had a peculiar way to conduct that place sheltering upon empathy all kinds of underground artists and bohemians whom in some cases he would make specific arrangements with when they could not pay the rent. A new management taking control of the place seem interested on using the internationally renowned building to turn it into a profitable luxury accommodation business, which inevitably causes the evacuation of many residents from its rooms and apartments. The documentary consists basically in footage of interviews with some of those residents, past or present, in order to ascertain what looks like the end of a mythical era. It was quite interesting hearing and discovering in those interviews another resident, photographer Tony Notarberardino, who talks about how he got to take a portrait of, among others, Dee Dee Ramone (musician of the Ramones who died in 2002) that will finally be part of a project I wait impatiently for to have a look, 'Chelsea Hotel Portraits'.

Among those who died in their rooms are the alcoholic poisoned poet Dylan Thomas or, in what is the most known case and remains an unsolved murder, Sid Vicious's girlfriend Nancy Spungen, stabbed when both punks were sharing a room there (represented in a fiction scene in this movie). And all kinds of cultural personalities were seen at its lobby or the (also threatened by the new situation) Spanish adjacent Restaurant, 'El Quixote' (owner from Galicia), from Dalí to Marilyn Monroe.
