El Puente de Estambul

'CRUZANDO EL PUENTE Los sonidos de Estambul' es un documental estrenando en el 2005 y realizado por el alemán-turco Fatih Akin tras el éxito de crítica de la magnífica y desgarradora 'Contra La Pared' (Oso de Oro en Berlín). El documental se origina a raíz de la colaboración del músico vanguardista alemán Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten) en la banda sonora de aquella, gracias a lo cual y debido a su estancia en la ciudad participa en el ambiente musical y se preocupa por investigar y grabar algo del amplio abanico de músicas que se practican allí, un crisol pleno de influencias orientales y occidentales, su puente sobre el Bósforo un vehículo abierto a los dos mundos. Fatih Akin sigue a Hacke y retrata su inquietud y aventuras por el ambiente musical del lugar, entrevistando a algunos de sus protagonistas y filmando las grabaciones. Un documento interesante pero que, debido a un tema casi imposible de abarcar en los 90 minutos de metraje, se queda en mero apunte de una escena más que interesante. Por la misma razón la banda sonora, aunque excelente, deja con ganas de más (y me sobra la broma de la versión del 'Music' de Madonna que inicia y cierra el Cd).

'CROSSING THE BRIDGE The Sound of Istanbul' is a 2005 documentary by German-Turkish film director Fatih Akin after the acclaimed and heartbreaking 'Head-On' (Golden Bear Prize at Berlin). The documentary was a result of the collaboration of German avant-garde musician Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten) on the soundtrack of that other film, who got involved and interested in Istanbul's music scene, investigating and recording samples of the wide range of music practiced there, a full pot of Eastern and Western influences, its bridge an open vehicle to both worlds. Fatih Akin follows the musician and portrays his concern and adventures, interviewing some of the musicians and filming the recordings. An interesting document but at the end results a mere sketch of such an interesting scene. For the same reason the soundtrack, while not bad at all, could have been so much better (and I can't stand the joke of a cover version of Madonna's 'Music' starting and closing the CD).
