This cover of the Johnny Paycheck composition that helped the career of Tammy Wynette was recorded by "Keef" for the first time in Toronto the night before the start of his trial for possession of heroin and cocaine that almost found him in prison as a consequence of a raid during the stay of the Stones to register a show at the El Mocambo Tavern for their album Love You Live. Abandoned already by his band and suffering from his declining relationship with Anita Pallenberg he performed a handful of country songs, probably learned from his friendship with Gram Parsons, with the common link in the lyrics of the lament of a loner drunk guy. Richards recorded at least another very similar version of the same tune in 1981.
