Nico - 'Vegas' (The Drama of Exile, 1983)
En Abril de 1981 Nico, perdida la belleza que exhibió como modelo acogida por la Factory de Warhol y ex-amante y musa de Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Alain Delon o Iggy Pop, lejos ya de parecerse a esa gélida rubia que cantaba en The Velvet Underground y sobreviviendo entregada a su pasión yonqui con amantes jóvenes en casas desmanteladas tras finiquitar una relación de diez años con el director de cine Philippe Garrell y aparecer en algunas de sus películas (Garrell por cierto usó esta canción en su película de 2005, 'Les Amants Réguliers'), grabó una primera versión de su álbum más rock, 'Drama of Exile', que según se cuenta fue robada por un ingeniero de sonido para negociar con otra discográfica. La versión publicada de esas sesiones es normalmente la que ha trascendido, pero un mes más tarde en el mismo año se volvió grabar otra versión del disco que vería la luz tiempo después incluyendo un par de temas más, 'Saeta' y este 'Vegas', que ya habían aparecido en un single antes de la sucia batalla que se armó entre los implicados por los derechos del material. Si a alguien le interesara la primera versión del disco lo usual es que aparezca fechado como una grabación de 1981 o (por error) 1980, mientras que la segunda versión suele fecharse en el año de su lanzamiento oficial tras los pleitos y disputas, 1983, y fue rebautizada como 'The Drama of Exile' (nótese la pequeña variación de incluir el artículo delante del título). En cualquier caso ambos temas extras también aparecen en la recopilación 'Nico Icon'.
In April of 1981 Nico, lost the beauty she exhibited as a model hosted in New York under Warhol's Factory fame and ex-lover and muse of Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop or Alain Delon, far from resembling that icy blond who sang in The Velvet Underground and surviving as a dedicated junkie with younger lovers in dismantled houses after a ten years relationship with film director Philippe Garrell appearing in some of his movies (and who by the way used this tune in his 2009 film 'Les Amants Réguliers'), recorded an early version of her most rocking album, 'Drama of Exile', which by all accounts was stolen by a sound engineer to negotiate with another record label. The published version of these early sessions is the most common known but one month later in the same year she re-recorded another version of the same album that would come out later including a couple of extra tracks, 'Saeta' and this track, 'Vegas', both already appearing in a previous single that was released before the dirty battle for the legal rights of the album between all parts. If somebody somewhere is interested in looking for the first version of the album it is usually found as a 1981 edition or (by mistake) as a 1980's while the second version is usually dated in the year it was finally released after legal and personal actions, 1983, renamed 'The Drama of Exile' (including the article before the title). Both tracks are also included in the 'Nico Icon' compilation cd.
